So you've decided to take the plunge and try a BRP experience? Great! Riding a Can-Am Off-Road vehicle or Ski-Doo can be a thrilling and invigorating experience, but it can also be overwhelming if you’re not prepared, even if the experiences are guided. Don’t worry, we’re here to make sure you go into your first ride with confidence. Read on for our top tips and tricks to getting ready for your first ATV or snowmobile adventure!
1. Know the basics - BRP vehicles are easy to operate and you'll be up and running in no time, but take the time to ask your guide if you have questions about the vehicle and how it works. Knowing how fast is too fast, for example, will help keep both yourself and others safe while out enjoying nature.
2. Familiarize yourself with the controls - there are a lot of them, but they're all pretty easy to use. With the guidance of the staff on-site, explore the different buttons and switches before you go for a ride. That way, you'll know exactly what each one does and you won't have to worry about accidentally hitting the wrong thing while riding.
3. Take it slow at first! Just get used to the feeling of riding a BRP vehicle and take your time getting comfortable with it. Once you get the hang of it, you can start going faster and trying new maneuvers. This is also true if it's been a while since you rode a bike or another similar vehicle as these skills don't always come back instantly!
4. Be aware of your surroundings and other riders/drivers. Remember that the experiences are done in convoy, everyone is sharing the trail, so be respectful of others and yield, stop or accelerate when necessary or when the guide says so.
5. Wear the right gear - helmet, goggles, gloves, etc. This is important for both safety and comfort reasons. You don't want to get injured or end up with frostbite because you weren't properly prepared! It may even be helpful to practice moving around in them before you take off so you can get comfortable with how they feel when you’re in motion.
6. Have fun! Just follow these tips and you'll be sure to have a great time on your next ride.
